How much protection does FDIC give me?
From FinancialPlanning
The basic rule is that FDIC insurance is capped at $100,000 per depositor, per bank. The limit is $250,000 for IRAs. Individuals may have more than $100,000 in protected assets at a single bank if they have accounts titled differently -- for example, an individual checking account and a joint checking account.
The FDIC's web site provides detailed explanations of the limits of deposit insurance in several languages.
